VIC-TOR-Y!!!

The Pioneers pulled off the Championship last night!

It was a hard fought battle, as it always is when we play the Slayers. They came out of the gate hard, and during an early power play Richard 'too tall' Leavitt was able to take advantage of a screen and slide the puck in for a 1-0 lead, which is how the first period ended.

The Nuts fought back in the 2nd though, with Erik 'peewee hockey' Anderson finally breaking his scoring slump, and wristing a sweet one over Womack. This was followed by Billy 'Back to' Schuler burying one on a setup from Spencer 'End of My' Roper on a power play of our own.

Hats off to a great season of hockey. The Nuts had a lot of fun and came together as a team. And cheers to the Slayers, who we always love to play and love to poke fun at.

Looking forward to a few months off, then lacing them up again in September! See you all at Andersons and Picarros end of season parties.

Let the Slaydown Begin

Well, after some heated action in the LOSERS bracket, the Slayers have emerged to battle the Pioneers for the L2 Championship. What a shame - all that hard work only to have to face the formidable Nuts for all the marbles.

Now, many of you have probably seen the 'trophy' that the Slayers drag around during the playoffs. I think they have some kind of dance that they do around it naked, Red Bulls in hand, just before suiting up at game time.

Have you ever noticed the 4 Barbie Dolls that 'hold up' the top of the trophy? Rumor has it that they have names - yup, they call them Will, Mike, Drew, and Kevin!

We did manage to get a quick shot of the warmup dance. See you tomorrow night lads.

Pioneers Send Slayers Packing

It was larceny. The Nuts stole one from the Slayers last night in semifinal action.

It started well. Dudley put us on the board early int he first with a sweet wrister that Womack was screened on. But then the penalties started coming, and although the PK was pretty solid, the boys in the red pyjamas came back and scored one, then Pritchard helped them out by depositing one in his own net.

But the Pioneers never say die. Sykes was amazing, and kept us in the game, hoping that our scoring touch would come. And it did - Paul Gelose tied things up with a sweet rebound that he buried.

Tied 2-2 in the third, the Slaybaggers threw everything they could at Sykes but he held his ground. With less than a minute to go, Mackay forechecked deep in the Slayers end, ending up with the puck and some time. With Spencer circling in front, Mackay thre the puck to the middle, but it was too high and a bit out of reach. Luckily, it went off the boards in the far corner, and bounced straight back to Moriarty, who took a low hard shot. Spencer was still in front, and tipped the puck between Womack's legs for the game winner with 41 seconds left! Sweet!

The Nuts now wait to see who can scramble out of the '1 loss' pack. At this point it could be El Rancho after their surprising elimination of the Cheapskates, or Fire On Ice, or those Slayers who were undefeated prior to last night. Whoever it is, we play them Tuesday night at 9:15 for the CHAMPIONSHIP, so come on out and watch the action.

As the much-hyped showdown between these 2 undefeated powerhouses approaches, your intrepid reporter did some sleuthing around and found some interesting stuff out there in Google land. Pioneers Playoffs

2 games into the playoffs, 2 teams dispatched!

On Saturday, the Nuts handily trounced El Rancho to open up the 2009 post season. This was a significant win, as past years the Ranch has always seemed to have our number. Maybe the lack of Bill Brown on the ice made the difference, who knows. It was not our best game, but we had the right outcome.

On Sunday the boys faced Fire on Ice, who we have not played well against lately. We jumped to a 4-0 lead with Brit providing 3 of the goals, but had a total brain fart at the end of the second period and beginning of the third, and let them score 2 goals in less than a minute. With that out of our system, the penalty box started to call. Playing 5 on 3, Fire pulled their goalie and we battled to defend against 6 of their skaters with only 3 of our guys n the ice for what seemed like 5 minutes of the 3rd. Sykes stood on his head, and we dodged a bullet and held on to win 5-3.

Nuts play their favorite opponent this Thursday, the Slaybaggers. BRING IT!

Last Game of Regular Season Tonight!

The Pioneers wind up their regular season tonight at 10:30, against El Rancho. The Nuts have dominated the Raunchettes all year, and are hoping that the trend continues. A win tonight would result in a 3rd place finish in the standings, which would mean a rematch with these guys on this coming Saturday at 11:30 AM. A loss would drop us to forth, which would mean a 10:15 AM game against Cuckoo's. Let's go for the win baybay!!!
